I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) who is dedicated to offering client-driven, individualized care to bring your baby into the world. All visits will be in your home.
Midwifery is as ancient as time itself. CPMs are the only midwives who are exclusively trained to deliver in out-of-hospital births. CPMs are trained professionals who are taught by other home birth midwives to recognize what is normal in pregnancy and birth and what isn’t. One thing remains constant between the traditional birth attendant and the certified professional midwife is “The Midwives Model of Care”.
CPMs work with birthing women to help them have the gentle, loving birth experience that they desire. Most don’t offer or insist on unnecessary interventions and intercessions. Midwives work with healthy low risk women who have a 98% chance of having a healthy, low-risk birth. We are there to nurture and guide you through your journey to motherhood. A midwife is extensively trained to recognize when something is not normal and healthy as well as when something is just a variation of normal.
I started out as a birth doula in 1997 and from there became a postpartum doula and monitrice. In 2006, I began my journey to becoming a home birth midwife and realized my work as a doula was limiting and the absurdity of the number of unnecessary c-sections that were being performed in the area. I have attended over 250 births with over 80 being in a home or birth center. Each birth teaches me something different as no woman, no pregnancy, no birth, and no baby are the same-even when the client is a repeat client. There is so much to learn about the birth process, and I emphasize the importance of trusting your body’s ability to give birth.
More and more women are choosing home birth due to hospital protocols, the desire for more control, and the idea of delivering in a familiar setting. With so many options out there for home birth, I have spent many years getting to where I am by giving my clients the best possible experience.
Here are some of the things I have perfected over the years to make me different:
